 본 연구는 중국계 싱가포르인의 한국 김치에 대한 인식 및 선호를 살펴본 초기 연구 중 하나로, 실제 싱가포르인을 대상으로 설문과 인터뷰 조사를 실시하였다. 싱가포르는 한국의 주요 김치 수출대상국 중 하나로, 교민들뿐만 아니라 싱가포르 현지인들에게도 인기가 높다. 이러한 현상은 한류와 더불어, K-푸드에 대한 선호가 반영된 것으로 판단된다. 그런데도 기존의 연구는 김치 등 K-푸드에 대한 학술적 연구가 미비한 것으로 나타난다. 특히, 본 연구가 주목하는 싱가포르 사례는 더욱 그러하다. 따라서, 본 연구는 중국계 싱가포르인만을 대상으로 한국 김치에 대한 인식과 선호를 살펴보았다. 분석 결과, 한국 김치에 대한 섭취 및 구매 태도는 성별, 연령, 장소 등 요인에 따라 차이를 보였다. 그리고, 김치의 맛에 대해서 만족스럽다는 의견이 많았으며, 음식으로서의 활용도도 높은 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 이러한 결과는, 중국계 싱가포르인의 김치에 대한 인식을 이해하고, 향후 김치 등 K-푸드를 활용한 문화교류 전략의 방향성 설정에도 긍정적으로 기여할 것으로 판단된다.
Abstract This study is one of the earliest studies to explore Chinese Singaporeans' perceptions and preferences for Korean Kimchi, using a survey and interviews with actual Singaporeans. Singapore is one of the major export destinations for Korean Kimchi, and it is popular among Chinese Singaporeans as well as locals. This is likely a reflection of the Korean Wave and the preference for K-food. Nevertheless, there is a lack of academic research on K-foods such as Kimchi in the literature, especially in the case of Singapore, which is the focus of this study. Therefore, this study explores the perceptions and preferences of Korean Kimchi among Chinese Singaporeans. The results showed that the consumption and purchase attitudes towards Korean Kimchi varied by demographic factors such as gender, and age, and that Chinese Singaporeans were satisfied with the flavor of Kimchi and enjoyed it as a food. These results are expected to contribute positively to understanding Chinese Singaporeans' perceptions of Kimchi and to setting the direction of future cultural exchange strategies utilizing Kimchi and other K-foods.
