 在马来亚与新加坡,三年八个月的日据时期无疑是个苦难时代,老百姓蒙受了巨大的性命与财产损失,更留下不少可歌可泣的战时记忆,至今仍在这片土地上魂牵梦萦。本文透过梳理来自不同叙事主体的战时经历与档案文献,探讨马来亚的柔佛边佳兰地区华人在1941至1945年间爆发的太平洋战争中如何自处,并通过对日据统治下当地的产业经济发展变迁的爬梳,重构战争对边佳兰华人社会与产业发展所带来的影响。本文认为,边佳兰凭借其独特的地理条件与产业形态,致使当地华人很大程度上逃过了屠杀与饥馑的厄运,日据时期在当地的基础建设及矿业开发,也间接重塑了当地的产业发展方向,奠定战后初期边佳兰的社会与地方格局走向。
Abstract In Malaya and Singapore, the three-year and eight-month Japanese occupation period was undoubtedly a time of suffering. The common people suffered huge loss of life and property, and left many evocative wartime memories, which are still lingering on our land. This article discusses how the Chinese in the Pengerang area of Johor to coped with the Pacific War that broke out from 1941 to 1945 by examining their wartime memories and other archival materials from different narrative subjects, to review the impact of the war on the Chinese society and industrial development in Pengerang. This paper argues that Pengerang, with its unique geographical conditions and industrial forms, caused the local Chinese to largely escape from the fate of massacres and famines during WWII. Under Japanese occupation period, local infrastructure and the opening of new mines had indirectly reshaped the trend of the local pattern which can be found on the industrial development and society changes in Pengerang during the early post-war period.
